Our meeting will take place during the afternoon on Friday, October 9, 2020. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Kristian Lum https://highlights.cis.upenn.edu/welcome-kristian-lum/ will be discussing algorithmic fairness and how she has used Statistics for social justice.
To avoid Zoom fatigue our program will be shorter than it has been in past years. The schedule is as follows:
12:30-1:00pm, MST Optional informal Lunch and “meet and greet”

1:10 - 2:00pm, MST Keynote Address: Dr. Kristian Lum, UPenn
Kristian Lum https://highlights.cis.upenn.edu/welcome-kristian-lum/ will be discussing how she has used Statistics for Social Justice
2:15 - 3:00pm, MST Small group discussions about the history of Statistics, Statistics for Social Justice, and beginning the development of anti-racist curriculum in Statistics courses.
Please be ready to have open discussions within small groups regarding how we can begin to overahaul curriculum in Statistics courses and adjust our practices to be actively anti-racist. Discussion materials and prompts will be provided, but are by no means meant to be strictly followed if discussions evolve in a different way within groups.
3:20 - 3:40pm, MST Moses Obiri, Interview and Internship Experiences
Moses Obiri is in his final semester pursuing Ph.D. in Statistics at Montana State University. His Ph.D. research is focused on Design of Experiments and data analysis. He was recently a PhD intern in the Applied Statistics and Computational Modeling division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His interview and internship experiences gained over the past year will be shared in this presentation.
